General Information

Please note: No audition is necessary for the BA in Dance, BFA in Dance Studies, or the Dance minor.

Be sure to note the difference between the BFA Performance & Choreography and the BFA Dance Teacher Certification programs, as they each have slightly different requirements. If you have not yet decided which BFA programs to apply for, select BFA Undecided, and we will make a recommendation based on your audition.

All Auditionees:

The audition will consist of the following: 

• Ballet barre warm-up, a center adagio, and allegro
• Modern/contemporary, including across-the-floor and a center combination with the opportunity to improvise
• A jazz combination
• A hip-hop combination

If you are auditioning for the BFA Performance & Choreography or you are Undecided:

• You are required to perform a solo at the audition. 
• The solo must be choreographed by you, 2 minutes max. 
• This can be any dance style to any genre of music. If the music contains lyrics, the lyrics must be clean/ appropriate. 
• The adjudicators are looking for the following: 
  • Clear beginning, middle, and end 
  • Creative: unique voice/ ideas 
  • Clear visual focus 
  • Clear phrasing 
  • Proper alignment 
  • Engaged performative presence 
  • Developed theme.
